Shannon Harston

Hello there! I am Shannon Harston, the Student Services Coordinator for the Portola Community. I serve both Portola Jr Sr High School and C Roy Carmichael Elementary School. As Student Services Coordinator- I connect and coordinate non-academic support services for students and families, assist in social-emotional support of our students through mentoring, provide advocacy for parents as well as support the principal and team in implementation of our school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Support framework at both campuses. 

I love this area and my passion is to be of service to others. I grew up in neighboring Lassen County, attended Texas A&M University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and remained in Texas for my Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. I returned to California to serve my home state and surrounding communities. My background is in community and children’s mental health. I am a licensed Marriage Family Therapist and have over 20 years of experience in serving children and families. Although I do not practice therapy in my role as Student Services Coordinator, I am happy to connect students and families to resources in our community or offered through your insurance. In addition to being Portola’s Student Services Coordinator, I also serve as Plumas Unified School District’s Lead Student Services Coordinator helping coach the other Student Services Coordinators and coordinating with Plumas County Behavioral Health Department.  Student Services Coordinators are supported through a partnership between PUSD and PCBH- both committed to prevention services for our students.
